SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 7, 2018) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Athletic Director Shane Hurley has announced the hiring of Kristine Samaniego as the Saints softball head coach. Samaniego comes to OLLU after two years at Mountain View College in Dallas. Her start date is slated for Sept. 17.
Hurley commented, "I am extremely excited to have Kristine leading our softball program into the upcoming season. She is highly motivated, knowledgeable and ready for the position. Her previous administrators praised her for her leadership on the field and as an academic mentor for the players."
Samaniego replaces eight-year head coach James Kling, who left OLLU for another coaching opportunity. The Saints, who will play several fall scrimmage games, will begin their 10th season in February. In their nine seasons, the team has an overall 255-164-1 record and 150-69 in the Red River Athletic Conference. They have qualified for the postseason eight of nine seasons, capturing the regular season and tournament title in 2014 and a share of the regular season title in 2018.
The team also has a successful record in the classroom, earning NAIA Scholar Team honors consecutively from 2013 through 2018.
