LA CROSSE, WISC. (Aug. 24, 2018) – The Our Lady of the University (OLLU) volleyball team opened its 2018 season with two wins at the Viterbo Holiday Inn Express Preseason Tournament. The Saints started off with a 3-1 win over Valley City State University (VCSU), followed by another 3-1 over Cardinal Stritch University (CSU).
Valley City opens its season 0-1, while Cardinal Stritch drops to 2-4.
Head Coach Jeremiah Tiffin said, "This early in the season, it's about limiting errors and getting better and today we were fortunate enough to do both. When we were high error, we lost; when we didn't make errors, we won. It's not difficult to figure out which is why I'm a volleyball coach.
"[Natalie] Fazio did a great job leading us in kills and being the leader she is. I thought Anyssa Rivera (JR/El Paso, Texas) had one of her better all-around days for us. Her hitting was on point, and she did a solid job distributing as a setter.
"Elizabeth Olivarez (SO/Edinburg, Texas) in her first matches as a libero was phenomenal. She allowed us to stay in systems and made our hitters better.
"Overall we had good contributions from everyone, and I'm excited to see how we do tomorrow."
