KANSAS CITY, MO. (March 13, 2018) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team is in Kansas City this week in anticipation of the 2018 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship. The Saints are scheduled to play Hope International University on Thursday, March 15, at 9:15 p.m.
Teams earning a berth at nationals typically participate in Champions of Character events, such as visiting schools and community centers. The Saints spent Tuesday at the Oak Hill YMCA in Overland Park, near Kansas City.
Men's Head Basketball Coach Michael Poindexter commented, "It was a great experience to meet with those kids today. To see their eyes light up as we walked in made it special. We talked to the kids about the NAIA Champions of Character core values, and about being active and eating right. The team members put on a slam dunk contest and played them one-on-one and signed autographs. Visiting with the kids helped our guys realize that they are role models and somebody is always looking up to them. It was a great experience."
