AUSTIN, TEXAS (March 15, 2018) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) graduate student Francesca Patrick (SR/Killeen, Texas) has been named to the 2017-2018 Academic All-America® College Division Women's Basketball Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The institutions' sports information directors must be members of CoSIDA in order to nominate qualified athletes. Patrick is the first basketball student-athlete at OLLU to earn this recognition.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division basketball teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. They are the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at their positions. No student athlete is eligible until she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Patrick, who was selected to the Second Team, finished out her four-year collegiate career this afternoon in the opening round of the 2018 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Championships presented by Wells Fargo. The Saints lost to Loyola University New Orleans 89-86. She is a second-year graduate student from Killeen, Texas, and is majoring in psychology, specializing in marriage and family therapy. Patrick maintains a 4.0 GPA.
This season, Patrick is the second-leading scorer for the Saints, averaging 13.7 ppg. with 425 points scored. She leads the team in steals with 59 and in free throws/attempts with 145/182. She is second in field goals/attempts with 134/284 and in assists with 75. She is third on the team in total rebounds with 110. Patrick played in all 31 games this season.
