SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 14, 2017) – The University of St. Thomas (UST) threatened to sweep the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Saints after securing two spirited set wins, but the Saints came back with a vengeance to destroy the Celts in the last two sets and the tiebreaker. The 3-2 win accounts for the Saints' 21st consecutive Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) win at home. The last time the Saints lost a RRAC match at Mabee Gym was exactly three years ago against the former University of Texas at Brownsville.
The Saints improve to 14-7 overall and 9-0 in conference, while UST drops to 7-11 overall and 4-5 in conference.
OLLU is the only undefeated team in the RRAC. Huston-Tillotson is 8-1, followed by Wiley and Southwest at 5-4, St. Thomas at 4-5, Langston at 3-5, Jarvis at 1-8 and Texas College at 0-8.
OLLU is 17-11 against St. Thomas in matches since 2007. The last time the Saints lost to the Celts was in 2013.
