LAKE WALES, FLA. (Oct. 3, 2017) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team participated in the Royals Classic today hosted by Warner University. The Saints lost the first match to Saint Thomas University (STU) 3-1 and won the second one to Warner University (WU) 3-1. The Saints move to 12-7 overall, while St. Thomas is now 7-9 and Warner is 3-10.
The Saints have never played Saint Thomas or Warner before.
Head Coach Jeremiah Tiffin commented, "Today was an up and down day but we are glad to get a win. Saint Thomas is a well-rounded team, and they made us work for all our points. Unfortunately, they played better at the beginning of games than we did, and they came out on top.
"Warner was a great host for this weekend and is a tough team to play. We tried a couple of different line-ups, and I'm glad we finally started to click. Anyssa Rivera (SO/El Paso, Texas) getting two triple doubles today was huge. It shows how much a well-rounded player she is becoming. Mariza Cardenas (JR/Brownsville, Texas) only made one attacking error this weekend, which is amazing for playing 11 sets.
"Overall, this was an important weekend for us. Playing high quality matches on the road will make us better for conference play."
