HAWKINS, TEXAS (Dec. 17, 2016) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Saints men's basketball team got off to a scorching start, then got big plays down the stretch to defeat the Jarvis Christian College (JCC) Bulldogs 90-75 on the road.
OLLU had six players score in double figures, led by Kellen Sweetwyne (SR/Hayward, Calif.)'s career-high 19 points (hitting 4-for-5 from the 3-point line). The Saints started the game on fire, hitting 10 3-pointers in the first half on 21 attempts, pinging the ball around the perimeter and assisting on 14 of their 19 made field goals.
In the second half, the Saints struggled defensively with fouling (giving up 26 free throw attempts) and rebounding (getting beat on the glass 16-32), while the offense struggled to get by the Bulldogs' 7-foot center Justyn Franks, who had six blocks in the second half and finished with seven.
Three different times, the Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to single digits in the second half, but the Saints answered each run with a clutch play to pull away with the 15-point win to improve to 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. JCC falls to 7-4 and 0-3 in conference.
