SAN ANTONIO (May 25, 2022) – After a successful season and 14 years of service to Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach Sal Castillo has announced he will be departing the university to pursue other opportunities within the sport of tennis. Castillo was the first and only coach for the tennis programs, which began competing in the 2008-2009 season.
This past season, the men competed at the Tennis Championships for the combined Heartland, Sooner, American Midwest and Red River Athletic Conferences in Springfield, Mo., and won one match and lost one. Last season, the Saints hosted the 2021 Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and placed fourth in the semifinals match. During the 2019-2020 season, Castillo led the Saints to wins over John Brown University, Southwestern Christian University and Howard Payne University. The official 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The men finished as NAIA Regional finalists in 2018-2019 and 2017-2019. Before that, in 2016 and 2017, the Saints captured the NAIA Regional Tournament Championships and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.
