TEXARKANA, TEXAS (Nov. 9. 2019) – Arthur Salazar, the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer head coach since 2013, will lead the Saints to their fifth Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championships. The regular-season champions Saints will meet third-seed University of the Southwest (USW) tonight at 5 p.m.
The Saints qualified for the finals after defeating LSU-Shreveport in the semifinals 2-1, while the Mustangs knocked the University of Houston-Victoria out 2-0 in the opening round and LSU-Alexandria 2-1 in the semifinals.
In the regular-season game between the Saints and Mustangs, Southwest came out ahead, winning 1-0. That loss and a 1-3 loss in 2017 were the only two defeats for the Saints against the Mustangs in 16 total matchups since 2008.
In all 16 games, the Saints have only allowed five goals, while connecting on 53.
Salazar, who has earned his third Women's Soccer Head Coach of the Year Award (2013, 2016, 2019), said after yesterday's win, "I'm very pleased with the way the team responded to going down 1-0 late in the game. The resilience they showed to battle back is something we struggled with, so to see it from such a young group is good. We are looking forward to another hard-fought game against USW."
