HAWKINS, TEXAS (April 11-12, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team won a crucial Red River Athletic Conference series against Jarvis Christian College (JCC) 2-1. The Saints won the single game on Thursday 11-1, won the first game of a doubleheader on Friday 3-0 and dropped the third game 13-5. The Saints improve to 24-21 overall and 13-8 in conference, while the Bulldogs move to 29-16 overall and 13-8 in conference.
In the conference, LSU-Shreveport is on top with a 17-4 record, followed by LSU-Alexandria at 14-7. Jarvis and OLLU are tied, followed by Texarkana at 11-10.
Head Coach Bryan Aughney said "I am always pleased to get a conference series win on the road. Jarvis is a tought place to play.
"Game one, Aaron Gonzalez, not feeling his best, did a great job and Joey Baker came in and held it down. Our bats came alive, and we were able to put some runs on the board.
"Game two, Logan Garza did a great job of keeping hitters off balance and pounding the strike zone. Offensively, we got what we needed with some timely hits and stolen bases.
"Game three, we did not attack the strike zone well as a staff and dug ourselves an early hole. The mentality has to be better, as we can't be satisified with two of three when we have am opportunity to sweep.
"We need to have a great week of practice as we have senior weekend upcoming, and we owe it to those guys to be on top of our game."
