SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 31, 2019) – A brand new squad with just five returners, a brand new coaching staff and excitement await the 2019 Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team this season. The Saints began competing in 2010, and this year marks their 10th season.
Head Coach Kristine Samaniego, who came on board in September, looks forward to the season. "It's been very exciting getting the women ready. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other through team meetings and team activities so I could get to know their personalities and what kind of dynamics I was going to have."
Samaniego came to OLLU after starting the softball program at Mountain View College, a D3 junior college in Texas. Prior to that, she was the assistant coach at Paris Junior College and the graduate assistant at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB). Samaniego also had a successful playing career at UTPB.
She received an undergraduate degree from UTPB and a master's degree from Eastern New Mexico University. Read more about Samaniego here.
